Highlights clean energy investments made by the Biden administration
Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen visited a lithium processing facility in North Carolina on Thursday, highlighting steps President Biden’s administration is taking to advance clean energy in America.
Lithium is a rare earth mineral that is essential for rechargeable batteries, such as those used in smartphones and electric vehicles. The lithium plant located near Charlotte has increased its processing capacity by 50 percent to meet the increased demand for electric vehicles, under funding made available by President Biden’s administration.
“Scaling up our domestic manufacturing capacity – particularly in new industries – can help create well-paying, middle-class jobs for Americans across the country, serving people and places that have too often been left behind,” Secretary Yellen said.
